Vitex trifolia as Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitors in Anti-Inflammatory Drug Discovery

Inflammation is involved in several stages of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, asthma, diabetes, neurodegenerative or cancer. Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) an important enzyme that catalyzes the production prostaglandins from arachidonic acid and has role various inflammatory-related pathologies. The selective suppression COX-2 over COX-1 thought to be a useful approach for treating inflammation. Vitex trifolia traditionally used inflammatory ailments, thus giving scope anti-inflammatory studies. Since action Ethanol extract (EEVT) on not been previously described. In this study, we further investigated effect inhibitory effects spectrophotometrically ELISA readers evaluated activity carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model. volume was measured using plethysmometer. results showed EEVt (200, 400, 800 mg/kg BW) had significant demonstrated Inhibitory effect. percentage inhibition 8,04%, 20,74%, 21,92%, 39,56%, 45,60%, 40,56%, respectively. These findings suggest leaves extracts possess promising remarkable activity, which directed against enzymatic COX-2.
